Motor Neuron Disease (MND) is a collective name for a group of neurological disorders in which the motor neurons that control the volitional muscles, breaks down and eventually stop working.

 
There are different forms of MND. The most common are:
-Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This is the classic MND and the most common type in Sweden.
-Primary lateral sclerosis (PLS)
-Progressive muscular atrophy (PMA)
-Progressive bulbar palsy (PBP)
 
The purpose of the registry is that doctors from all over Sweden can work together to improve the care for patients with ALS. Working registry based will help to maintain a high and equal quality for ALS care, and to ensure that treatment guidelines are followed and that investigations are conducted properly. It creates a research base for whole of Sweden and enables collaboration on ALS between hospitals.
